June 26, 2018

El Paso Film Festival will be held in Downtown El Paso this Fall. Artistic Director Carlos Corral brings independent film to the heart of El Paso.

EL PASO – The El Paso Film Festival is one of the region’s largest showcase of independently produced narrative and documentary films.

Dr. Victoria Ramierz, director of the El Paso Museum of Art, will be partnering with Artistic Director Carlos Corral in hosting the 1st El Paso Film Festival this fall in Downtown El Paso. With the philanthropic help of the Paso Del Norte Charitable Foundation, the El Paso Film Festival and its Sponsors will be awarding up to $5,000 in cash prizes to independent filmmakers.

“I’m so happy that the Art Museum is collaborating with our film festival. By partnering with our mission, the El Paso Museum of Art has granted us an opportunity to be recognized as a premiere film festival in our region.” said Corral, a 2007 graduate from the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in Radio-Television-Film. “I think it's time that a city of our size has a name film festival, just like Austin, Dallas, and even Las Cruces.” he said.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Carlos Corral returned to his hometown of El Paso, TX, and founded MindWarp Films. Corral works and produces a majority of the television & film production in and around West Texas and Southern New Mexico.

The El Paso Film Festival's Advisory Committee is made up various members of the El Paso Community, which include Charles Horak, Felipa Solis, Lisa Elliott, and Teresita Gonzalez Corral.

Join us for the first El Paso Film Festival at the El Paso Energy Theater and Philanthropy Theater September 14th - 16th, 2018 as audiences are treated to a selection of short and feature films by local, regional, and national filmmakers. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday August 14th, 2018, for the general public. The Membership of the El Paso Museum of Art will be able to attend the festival free of charge.

“My goal with this film festival is to make it an Oscar-qualifying competitive one,” Corral said. “Not only do I want to award cash prizes to recognize the hard work of independent filmmakers, but I also want to make the city of El Paso a featured destination and beacon for independent cinema.”

Following the screenings at the Art Museum, the film festival will host an opening night and Saturday night filmmaker receptions in downtown El Paso for sponsors, local, and visiting filmmakers.

“You would be surprised how many stories have El Paso connections. The films we are screening all have something important to say,” Corral said.
