FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
As part of the organization’s annual voting, the Austin Film Critics Association awards titles with local ties — works made in Austin and/or directed by a filmmaker living in town during their film’s production. This award is distinct to our group of critics, recognizing the talent of Austin filmmakers as we celebrate the best films of the year.
The winner of the 2018 Austin Film award will be announced January 7, 2019 with the rest of the AFCA award winners (which will include new categories such as editing and ensemble this year).
In alphabetical order, our five nominees for 2018 are:
- 1985 (dir. Yen Tan)
- Call Her Ganda (dir. PJ Raval)
- Damsel (dir. David & Nathan Zellner)
- Run Like the Devil (dir. Steve Mims)
- Support the Girls (dir. Andrew Bujalski)
The winning film will be shown in a special screening at AFS Cinema on January 13, 2019 (thank you, Austin Film Society!).
