Announcing the 2019 El Paso Film Festival 

El Paso Film Festival promises to enrich fans of films shown and told by Texans 

EL PASO – The El Paso Film Festival will be screening independent short films and feature films during its second season on October 24th through 27th with a focus on film from the far edge of Texas. This year will feature screenings of (12) Feature Films and more than (50) short films, with nearly half of the line-up made by local El Paso filmmakers. The El Paso Film Festival, now in its second year, is the newest film festival in the region and is among the largest showcase of independently produced documentary, as well as, narrative short and feature films. With the philanthropic help of the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation, the El Paso Film Festival and its sponsors will be awarding up to $5,000 in cash prizes to independent filmmakers.

The El Paso Film Festival was created by filmmaker Carlos Corral in 2018 with the support of the El Paso Filmmakers organization. With the philanthropic help of the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation, the El Paso Film Festival screens original film showcases for aspiring filmmakers and for all who look to enjoy independent work that they won't see in a mainstream theater.

“My goal with this film festival is still to turn it into an Oscar-qualifying competitive festival and make the city of El Paso a featured destination and beacon for independent cinema,” says Corral. “We're happy to bring back independent film for our sophomore year as a festival. We've got some special surprises for our guests and filmmakers this year.”

As the signature independent film festival of El Paso, the El Paso Film Festival brings quality short and feature films to its attendees and participants. Working to expand the introduction of new independent films, the festival inspires individuals and groups to embark on their creative journey to write and tell their story for the film and television industry.

From narrative to documentary films, philanthropic support is given to everyone involved in the art of filmmaking. The Paso Del Norte Community Foundation and El Paso Film Festival have thus teamed up to support independent cinema in the southwest border region. “The films that we will be screening all have something unique and important to say about the state of society, politics, and art.” said Corral, a 2007 graduate from the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in Radio-Television-Film. 

 The El Paso film festival is proud to feature “Dream With Me” directed by Jonathan Seaborn that showcases the life of one of the 800,000 “DREAMers who took advantage of President Barack Obama’s DACA program, “When All That’s Left” directed by Eric Gordon, a film that explores the toll that Alzheimer’s disease takes on families and the impact of love, and “Running With Beto” directed by David Modigliani, which follows native El Pasoan Beto O’Rourke, during his senatorial campaign.
