Located at El Paso County’s Ascarate Park, the garden stands as a solemn tribute to the 23 lives lost in the tragic, racially motivated mass shooting at the Cielo Vista Walmart on August 3, 2019. El Paso County Judge Richard Samaniego and El Paso County commissioned the Healing Garden to commemorate the lives lost in the attack and opened it Aug. 3, 2021, the two-year anniversary of the shooting.
