Maureen Bharoocha

Maureen Bharoocha is a Los Angeles writer/director whose projects are as diverse as her background. She started her career with her short film, Abajee (shot on the streets of Karachi) which premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 2009. Maureen was then commissioned by Sprinkles Cupcakes to create a film series in which she wrote and directed 10 shorts based on their cupcake flavors.

Hailing from a mixed family of half Irish Catholic and half Indian-Pakistani Burmese Muslim heritage, Maureen is an American medley with a new perspective on exploring individual identity. Her signature style heightens beautiful images with dark comedy and realism creating a unique world for her curious, unusual characters to navigate.

Maureen’s film, the SXSW arm wrestling comedy, Golden Arm now available on HBO. Maureen was a segment director on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the 20016-2019 seasons and recently directed Crooked Media and Q Codes 8 epiosde narrative podcast series Edith starring Rosamund Pike.

Maureen was named one of IndieWire’s Rising Female Directors of 2020, she was on HBO’s 2018 Director’s List, and nominated for the SXSW 2020 Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Visionary directing Award.
